Member Spotlight: Kyle Grace Design

Meet Kyle Grace Design!

We would like to welcome Tana and Julie of Kyle Grace Design as new members of Leucadia 101 Mainstreet! We are so excited to have this beautiful interior design firm and boutique as part of our growing Leucadia 101 family. A few weeks ago we stopped into their (beautiful, inspiring) boutique space right off the 101 to get to know these ladies a little better. Read on to hear about their story about opening up shop in Leucadia!

How did Kyle and Grace get started?

I (Tana) moved here from Phoenix where I had already been working as an interior designer. Once I got here, friends kept asking me for design help so I figured why not make a job out of something I already knew about and loved. Meanwhile, Julie was working for another designer but really wanted to go out on her own.

We met through our 8th grade kids who kept telling us we would really like each other and we hit it off immediately. Thank goodness for kid match-makers! We decided to go into business together and agreed to open a home store in Leucadia since there weren’t any in town.

How do you decide which projects are a good fit?

We've been really lucky with the people who have approached us. We have yet to turn down a project and have loved working on each and every one so far! Plus, many of our clients have turned into friends, so we definitely got lucky in that regard too.

Where do you find inspiration?

Paris because of the attention to detail. Everything they do in that city is beautiful. Mexico because of the simplicity of design. Our favorite places for inspiration in Mexico are San Miguel de Allende, a colonial-era city in Mexico’s central highlands known for its baroque Spanish architecture and thriving arts scene, and Valle de Guadalupe, known for its stunning wine country and accompanying design-forward wineries.

What has been your favorite project so far?

Creating our home store and studio space right here in Leucadia!

What is your dream job/project to work on?

A Boutique Hotel. It would be amazing to design one right here in Leucadia, but we love to travel so anywhere in the world will do!

What is your favorite room to design and why?

The kitchen because it is the heart of the home and where everyone spends most of their time. Its where everything happens!

What is your favorite part about living in Leucadia and being part of the Leucadia 101 family?

The people in Leucadia!

What is different about designing in Leucadia?

The lifestyle is just so much more relaxed here. People in Leucadia have such an appreciation and interest in art. We try really hard to feature local artists. We feel really strongly about having local items available to purchase in our studio. Also, just being so close to the ocean and so tied to the ocean makes a difference. Everything is surrounded or inspired by the water and sunsets and the colors of the water.

What does your perfect evening in Leucadia look like?

Having a glass of wine at sunset at home and then walking over to Fish 101 for dinner.

Anything else you would like to share?

Gifts! We have lots of gifts in our studio. If you’re looking for a hostess gift, birthday gift, anything - stop by! We have tons of options. Our current favorite are the Surf Leucadia sweatshirts. They are designed by Heidi Merrick and produced responsibly and locally right here in Southern California.

Cheers Kyle x Grace!
