LeucadiART Walk Artist Spotlight: Bjornson

August 6, 2019

To get the excitement going for our upcoming LeucadiART Walk on August 25th, we will be featuring a few of the artists who will be showcasing their art at the event. First up is Bjorn Cody, pen name Bjornson, an artist whose work features bold outlines, loud colors, and funky shapes. His hope is to bring smiles and positive energy to people through his artwork. We got the chance to ask him a few questions about his art and being a member of our Leucadia community. See below to learn more about Bjorn before stopping by his booth at the LeucadiART Walk!

1. How did you first get into art?

Art was always an escape for me as a shy child and realized in high school that I wanted to somehow pursue art as a career. I began experimenting for years with different mediums and colors and was able to narrow down a personal style and really start focusing on technique. After spending a decade designing professionally in digital media, I have spent the past few years focusing more on my painting and personal passion artworks.

2. How has your work evolved since you first started?

It has definitely cleaned up a ton! Many long nights of trial and error allowed my work to evolve organically and without too much pressure. Creating artwork as an emotional expression and creating artwork to make money are very different things, so I always focus on my personal passion and energy for the work.

3. What inspires your art?

My art definitely channels a fun and bright vibration. Classic 1990's style, urban graffiti, and vintage pop art have had big influences in my design and color selection. Today's world is filled with so much dark and gloom, so my goal has always been to create bright and fun artwork that hopefully sparks joy and smiles for those who experience it.

4. What are your favorite kinds of pieces to create? What is your favorite piece you have created so far?

My favorite pieces to create are bright, acrylic paintings on birch wood. The contrast between the colors, hard black lines, and smooth, natural wood creates a beautiful balance. My current favorite piece is a work titled 'XCross, which was painted on this awesome, uniquely shaped wood canvas I scored from a thrift store. The composition was very technical and challenging, which inspired these awesome energized sessions of flow.

5. In your eyes, what role does art play in building community?

Art is an expression of the community surrounding it, so in my eyes it brings individuals together to connect and embrace with beautiful, creative ideas and inspirations.

6. What does being part of LeucadiART Walk mean to you as a member of our community?

It is a great honor to be representing the neighborhood amongst other talented and funky people. Supporting local artists and businesses helps strengthen the community, which allows it's citizens and vision to evolve and flourish.

Cheers Bjorn!
