Meet Child of Wild!
We would like to welcome Eileen Lofgren of Child of Wild as new members of Leucadia 101 Mainstreet! We are stoked (and a bit nervous for our shopping habit) to have this jewelry & design studio as part of our growing Leucadia 101 family. We stopped into their recently opened boutique space right off the 101 last week to experience the magic ourselves. Read below to learn more about how owner and designer Eileen Lofgren started Child of Wild and how they came to open up shoppe in Leucadia!
1. How did Child of Wild get started?
We have been in business for over 6 years! I started in a small apartment in LA where I stored all my vintage jewelry in the front hall closet. I would go to remote gem shows and travel the world to source authentic cultural jewelry. I wanted a website that only sold authentic jewelry and gave the artisans credit. I studied Humanities and Philosophy in college and have always searched for depth in everything we purchase to resale.
2. What elements define Child of Wild's style? Where do you find inspiration?
We always mix femme with a little edge. We have an office saying we live by "never cute, always rad" and constantly search of Muses that encompass that same vibe. Our aesthetic is full of neutral textures, crystal skulls and organic materials. We have a strict color code of whites and neutrals as you can see on our main instagram @child_of_wild .
3. What is important to you in running Child of Wild?
We first and foremost look for hand touched unique jewelry. We carry nothing mass-produced in China and work closely with artisans and small family businesses around the world who are masters at their craft. That positive energy is transferred through our product to our clients.
4. Favorite travel destination and how is that reflected in your jewelry?
One of my all-time favorite sourcing trips was to Bali. I found that working with a culture and group of artisans that have a strong religious tie to their art and are incredibly passionate and prideful about their craft is such a gift to source from! High quality doesn't always come with a high pricetag. Find treasured that mean something to you and meant something to the person who made it.
5. Why did you decide to move Child of Wild to Leucadia? What’s your favorite part about being a part of Leucadia? What’s different about working in Leucadia?
We were searching for over a year to find the perfect spot up north. Leucadia is an untouched gem of small businesses that humbly perfect their craft. The neighborhood thrives on supporting small businesses. We have the best conversations with local friends and everyone is out walking and being active! It has been so much fun!
6. Perfect day and/or evening out in Leucadia?
A perfect day in Leucadia would be starting off with a Lavender Oat latte from the French Corner, walking into all the shops in north county, maybe get another ear piercing from Piercing 101 and then OF COURSE ending with Fish 101.
Cheers Child of Wild!
